Irvine sits in Orange County. The county sheriff takes care of all jail operations. There is no city jail in Irvine. The Irvine Police Department has temporary holding cells at their station on Civic Center Drive, but those are for short-term processing only. After booking, inmates go to an Orange County facility. One thing worth noting is that the James A. Musick Facility actually sits in Irvine, near the 241 toll road. Musick is a minimum-security facility. It belongs to the Orange County Sheriff and serves the whole county. About 1,200 inmates can be housed there.
